Reimagine

Reimagine

Close your eyes for a moment if you will and imagine a spring without a virus.
One without quarantine or cancellations, face masks, or fear…

Where would you have visited?
Who would you have spent your days with?
What would you be doing right now?

I would have spent a week in Palm Desert, California raising money for adoption.
I would have spent a day at William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa attending a graduation ceremony honoring my son and the Class of 2020.
I would currently be raising my glass in celebration, kicking off a week of wedding festivities for my son and his bride, on a small Greek island in the Aegean Sea.
I would have hugged my mom on her birthday.

We’ve all missed events and people but it’s important to remember that there is still relevance in each day.

Weddings were postponed, but love still exists.
Graduation ceremonies were canceled, but the future still awaits.
Churches were closed, but our faith has grown.
Schools dismissed early, but learning still occurs.

For me, to reimagine this time would be to say it didn’t matter, squashing the special moments because they weren’t celebrated in the right way... kind of like wishing away the first-place finish, just because there wasn’t a trophy.
Yes, I imagined a different spring, but I am thankful for the one I was given. The passing of this time has been quiet, reflective, and special. It’s been filled with important people, a few places, and fewer things than ever before.
And as I imagine the days to come, after this has passed, I hope I can continue to take time to seek out the sacred, essential moments in every day
