My name is Rebecca Medina Stewart,

… and I’m from South Florida. I’m the author of SEEN: Experiencing God’s Tenderness After Brokenness, a 60-day devotional filled with stories of healing and hope after trauma. This book also features guided biblical meditations and prayers designed to walk readers through their own journey toward restoration.

I am a survivor of sexual assault, and this book was born from my own deeply personal trauma. In 1992, during the second semester of my college career, my world was shattered. I thought I was invincible—ready to conquer anything life threw my way. But I was young, naïve, and utterly unprepared for a world that would ruthlessly chew me up and spit me out.

After the assault, I spent decades running from God, making one painful decision after another, each one adding to the weight of my brokenness. I was exhausted—physically, emotionally, and spiritually—barely clinging to life itself. I longed to escape the nightmare I was living.

But God, in His boundless compassion, had other plans for me. As the darkness around me deepened, He sent His light. When my depression pulled me further into the abyss, Jesus took my hand and led me gently toward healing. He didn’t abandon me in my brokenness—He met me there and began the hard, holy work of restoring my heart.

The journey back wasn’t easy. It was grueling, messy, and painful. But through years of Christian counseling, immersing myself in God’s Word, and leaning into the love of a supportive church community, I found hope again. I chose to hold on to God with all I had, and He held me even tighter. He healed me, transformed me, and gave me a new story—a story of redemption, joy, and peace.

Now, I can boldly declare, “I will not die; instead, I will live to tell what the Lord has done” (Psalm 118:17 NLT).

What I’ve learned through this journey is something I hold close to my heart: when you choose to trust God with your pain, buckle up—because He’s about to do something extraordinary. He doesn’t just bring you through your trauma; He uses it to bless and redeem others. In God’s Kingdom, not one tear is wasted. Not even your darkest, most painful moment is beyond His power to transform.

Today, the very tragedy that once defined me has become my greatest testimony. God took my brokenness and turned it into beauty—for His glory and for the good of others. And if He can do it for me, He can do it for you too.
